Tony Furtado at Cavalier Theater
View on Eventbrite
Tony Furtado has been a staple on the west coast bluegrass and roots music scene since the late 80s. Originally from California, and now calling Portland home, Tony released his first album on Rounder Records in 1989 and has put out almost 20 albums since then. A two time winner of National Bluegrass banjo Championship, Tony is a virtuoso on both guitar and banjo, and mixes old timey music with modern northwest indie rock, with flourishes of gypsy jazz, Celtic music and Americana. Performing with artists such as Béla Fleck, Alison Krauss, Jerry Douglas and Earl Scruggs, Tony's music has been called a descendent of David Grisman's new grass school, as well as being compared to Ry Cooder and TBone Burnett. Joining Tony is his three time national fiddle champion Luke Price, where the two weave telepathic intricate and dream like melodies on stage together.
